Laptop as wifi HotSpot

This method will help you to quickly turn your laptop into a wireless HotSpot without any extra software.This allows other laptops or PC’s to connect or access the internet through this newly created HotSpot , without using a router ,  hub or switch. Only thing you need is a Laptop thats connected to internet.We make this laptop as Host which sends wifi signals which can be  received by devices in that area.

Steps : For Windows XP machines

1.  Goto ControlPanel >>   Network Connections .

2.  Right-click your wireless network connection, and then click Properties.

3.  In the Wireless Network Connection Properties dialog box, click the Wireless Networks tab  , and select the  check-box which says “Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings” Under “Prefered networks” click “Add”.

4. In the Wireless network properties dialog box, on the Association tab, type the name of your ad hoc wireless network in Network name (SSID)box . (see picture below)

5  Clear the The key is provided for me automatically check box and select the This is a computer-to-computer (ad hoc) network check box. (see picture below)

6.  Create a 13-digit password and type it in both the Network key and Confirm network key boxes. (see picture below)

7. Click OK again to save your changes.

we are done with the wireless connection properties

One more step, we have to change something in the wired connection setting so that it knows that it has to share connection with the computers accessing our .

  1. Go to local Area Connections, right click it and select properties
  2. Go to the “Advanced” tab and under Internet Connection Sharing check the box which says “Allow other network users to connect through this computer’s internet connection” and make sure the box under that is NOT selected so that no one can disable the network remotely.
  3. Hit “OK”.

Thats it .Your Host machine is now a wifi HotSpot. Other machine can now connect to this network.

For Windows Vista  machines:

This process is Easy in Vista Machines.

1. Click on “Network and Sharing Centre” in control panel

2.  Choose “Setup New Connection” from Tasks.

3. Wireless “Ad-hoc network”.

4.  Give a   “Network Name”.

5.  Choose “WEP” password.

6. Click “Internet connection sharing”. Thats it .
